Worms

Inspired by the award-winning short film of the same name, which won more than 10 awards at festivals around the world, Minhocas is the first Brazilian stop-motion feature film, released in December 2013 in Brazil and in 2015 in Europe, Asia, and the United States. The film tells a story of growth centered around a pre-teen worm named Junior, who struggles to fit in with the group of worms in his community. Accidentally dug out of the ground by a shovel, Junior embarks on an adventure with his new friends, Nico and Linda, as they try to find their way home. Along the way, he must stop the sinister plans of a terrible armadillo.

In this action-packed adventure that explores themes like planet sustainability, recycling, and reuse of industrial materials, Junior learns that values like respect, trust, and friendship are the only tools that can help us overcome the challenges in our lives.

Junior

Junior is a pre-teen with socialization issues, a nervous temperament, nerdy tendencies, emotional instability, and a stubborn streak. He’s often given the best toys by his parents and is spoiled by his mother. Junior avoids openly acknowledging his friendship with Nico, as he considers him too young; meanwhile, he finds Linda attractive, despite her tough and aggressive demeanor.

Nico

An absolute nerd, childlike, innocent, and a loyal, friendly companion to Junior. Highly intelligent with a boy-genius vibe, he's optimistic and rational in all his thinking.

Linda

Independent, aggressive, and often grumpy, she has a hidden gentle side that rarely shows. She ran away from home after her parents’ separation and survives on her own in No Man’s Land.

Bigwig

A high-IQ mutant, deeply resentful of the world, with a strong hatred for worms. He’s a psychopathic mastermind with a volatile, bipolar personality and the ruthless leader of the “Mud Gang.”

Martha

Junior's mother, very affectionate and overly protective; though she may not realize it, she tends to be quite controlling over her son’s actions. She has a strong need for cleanliness and organization.

Grandpa

Junior's paternal grandfather. Senile, grumpy, and forgetful, he sees conspiracies everywhere and constantly tells tall tales that no one believes.

Mister Jumping

A famous, egocentric hero, both cocky and theatrical. He's the star of the highest-rated TV show in the worm world, making him adored by all, especially Junior. Rude and hot-tempered, he’s constantly yelling at Florence.
